This presentation was an assignment in my Applied Business Communications (BUS 3000) course at Cal Poly Pomona. The purpose of this presentation was to inform others of the resources that Cal Poly has on its campus for its students, as well as to discuss three possible job opportunities for after graduation.

My team focused specifically on Human Resources since we were a team of HR majors. We discussed the different clubs, faculty, and advisors, who focus on HR. We also explained different resources the Career Center has for the students, such as mock interviews. Cal Poly Pomona has one of the best HR programs in the state. This program follows guidelines from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), making the students eligible to take the SHRM - Certified Professional exam after graduation. This can give an individual a leg up when applying for a position in HR.

We chose three open positions in the HR field in different industries that we found on LinkedIn. We stated a brief summary of the key duties and skills we acquire in college that we can utilize in that position. We also chose to display how many Cal Poly Pomona Alumni work at each company. As a student who wants to apply for that position, it will be very beneficial to connect with alumni who are currently working there.

This is a very important project and presentation for students. Many students come to school not knowing all of the resources there are, but with this assignment, you are forced to find them. You need to talk to others at the school, enhancing your networking capabilities. We also had to learn how to work as a team and collaborate on ideas. Then we had to present our findings to our class. Due to the current crisis, we had to do a virtual presentation. The changes we unexpected when we started the project, but it made us better presenters.

My two biggest takeaways from this project are:
1) When you are new to somewhere, whether it be a new school or a new job, ask questions and talk to people. The people who came before you can show you the resources available to you, you'll be growing your professional network, and you always have someone to turn to when you need help.
2)No matter what challenges you face, continue to push through till the end, it will be worth it!
